Sen was born as Shubhomitra Sen in Kolkata, West Bengal. Rimi completed her schooling from Bidya Bharati Girls' High School in the year 1998.

Burnett was born and raised in Mardela Springs, Maryland. She attended St. Andrew's School in Middletown, Delaware, graduating in 1994. Burnett later attended Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
